The Independent LifeStyle Assistant ^TM monitoring system (I.L.S.A.) is a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-sponsored program led by Honeywell Laboratories to develop innovative technology for elder home care.

We know that moving into assisted living or nursing facilities causes great economic, physical, and emotional trauma for elders and their families. I.L.S.A.'s objectives are to help elders live at home longer in a safe environment, help healthcare workers concentrate efforts where they are needed—using Smart Home technology and the Worldwide Web as tools to help provide better service at reduced costs, and to help caregivers balance elder care needs with other responsibilities.
