Robert P. Goldman

B.A. Philosophy, {magna cum laude}, Yale University, 1983.
M.Sc. Computer Science, Brown University, 1988.
Ph.D. Computer Science, Brown University, 1991.

Dr. Goldman is a Senior Research Scientist in the Automated Reasoning technology group of the Honeywell Technology Center, where he has worked since July 1993.

Dr. Goldman is currently leading the development of an innovative distributed, constraint-based scheduling system for batch manufacturing. This development is being funded by DARPA's Object Technology for Rapid Software Development TRP and involves extensive use of CORBA distributed system facilities. Dr. Goldman has also worked on a prototype scheduling system for satellite operations.

Dr. Goldman's research interests concern the development of intelligent systems whose behavior is robust under uncertainty. In this vein, he has worked on automated diagnostic systems for oil refineries and for building climate control. He was a primary investigator on the DAWS project, developing an adaptive automated warning system for automobile drivers. With Dr. Boddy, he has developed a new framework for planning under uncertainty. Dr. Goldman has developed a prototype planning system for image processing and demonstrated it to earth scientists at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

Prior to joining Honeywell, Dr. Goldman was Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Tulane University. While on the Tulane faculty, he was a summer fellow at Rockwell Science Center's Palo Alto Research Center.
